A GREEN-BUILDING EVENT DEDICATED TO COMMISSIONING
As conference manager of the Engineering Green Buildings Conference
& Expo (EGB), I'm proud to announce the introduction this year of
the Commissioning Green Buildings Conference & Expo (CxGB), which
will co-locate with EGB 2008 this October in Las Vegas.
There are many reasons an event like CxGB makes sense. Primary among them is the fact that commissioning is ideally suited as a process for ensuring that a building’s mechanical systems are designed with appropriate green-building and sustainable features, and that those systems are installed correctly and operating properly.
In addition, attaining the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification for either a new or existing building has become the gold standard for verifying building performance. Therefore, commissioning takes on an especially important role in ensuring that a building’s mechanical systems are performing favorably and that they are truly “green.”
WHY CxGB AND WHY NOW?
- The majority of new buildings are not built with energy efficiency in mind, and most of the 5 million existing commercial buildings in the U.S. have never undergone any type of commissioning or quality assurance process.
- As a result, they perform well below their potential, use more energy and cost more to operate.
- Commissioning helps improve building performance, solve comfort and operational problems, save energy and reduce operating costs.
- Commissioning can also help assure that a building meets required guidelines for LEED certification.
CxGB AND EGB - A NATURAL COMBINATION
Commissioning and green-building have much in common, making CxGB the perfect bookend to EGB. The simple fact is commissioning and green-building strive to accomplish similar goals, primarily: to ensure optimal building performance and to save energy by reducing operating costs.
- Green buildings save energy and have more value in the real-estate market.
- Buildings that have been properly commissioned perform better and are more energy efficient.
CxGB will offer the same quality technical conference program EGB has provided for the past four years. This web site is intended to provide complete details about the conference topics and speakers, as well as information on attending and/or exhibiting at CxGB 2008. You can also contact me directly if you have any additional questions or comments.
We hope you'll join us in Las Vegas this October!
